Pruna turns MiniMax’s H3 video model into a faster open image model
P-H3-Image generates and edits stills in 8 steps instead of 50, but it inherits a licence that excludes the US, UK, EU and South Korea.

Pruna AI released P-H3-Image on 3 November 2026. It takes MiniMax H3, a large video-generation model, and reworks it into an open-weights model for generating and editing still images.
A SOTA video model, turned into an efficient open image model.
What changed
Pruna says it reworked every part of the H3 pipeline: the prompt upsampler, the text encoder, the diffusion schedule, the transformer and the decoder. The headline numbers from its technical write-up:
- 8 diffusion steps instead of 50.
- A 4-megapixel image in 2.6 seconds on an NVIDIA B200, against 12.4 seconds for H3, roughly five times faster.
- A 20 GB download for the smallest, 4-bit build, against 143 GB for H3.
- About 21 GB of GPU memory at 8 megapixels with that 4-bit build.
The model renders images from 2 to 16 megapixels and can take several input images for an edit. Pruna says it is strongest at photorealism, documentary and editorial photography, film stills, and graphic styles with short quoted text. It also lists the weak spots: hands and small background figures can distort, especially below 8 megapixels, and small or dense text is unreliable. A prompt upsampler based on Qwen3.5-9B runs on every request by default and expands short prompts into detailed ones. The weights are on Hugging Face with Diffusers support, and ComfyUI supported the model natively at launch.
Read the licence before you publish anything
P-H3-Image is released under the MiniMax H3 Community License. That licence covers the world except the European Union, the United Kingdom, South Korea and the United States, where you need a separate licence from MiniMax. It also says the model and its outputs may not be used outside the permitted territory, and products built on it must display ‘Powered by MiniMax H3’. Australia is inside the permitted territory.
What it means for your business
Fast, inexpensive image generation suits the volume work in marketing: campaign variations, product shots in different settings, the same visual cut for five social formats. A model that runs on a single GPU brings that cost down further.
The licence is the bigger business question. If your campaigns reach customers in the US, UK or EU, an image made with this model may not be usable there without a separate agreement. Treat model licences the way you treat stock-photo and font licences: someone on the team checks them before an asset goes out, and you keep a record of which model made which asset. AI can produce the drafts; a person signs off on what gets published.
